How It Works: The Science Behind HBOT
Under normal conditions, oxygen is carried primarily by red blood cells. But in a hyperbaric chamber, increased pressure enables oxygen to dissolve directly into plasma, lymph, and other fluids, reaching areas with limited blood flow or tissue damage.

What to Expect during a Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Session at thriveMD
Pre-Treatment Consultation
Before your first session, our clinical team will review your medical history and treatment goals to ensure HBOT is safe and appropriate for you. Based on your health objectives, you’ll receive personalized guidance on how many sessions are recommended.
Entering the Hyperbaric Chamber
thriveMD uses a spacious, hard-sided chamber. You’ll be seated or reclined in a relaxed position inside the chamber. Our HBOT can seat two people if they want to be treated together and allows you to safely bring in a phone, tablet, or laptop.support tissue repair.
Pressurization
As the session begins, the chamber gradually increases in pressure. This process typically takes about 10–15 minutes to achieve desired 2.0 ATA pressure. You may feel ear pressure, similar to taking off or landing in an airplane or scuba diving. Swallowing, yawning, or gently pinching your nose and blowing can help equalize the pressure.improve mobility.
Oxygen Therapy
During pressurization and once at full pressure, you will begin breathing 100% medical-grade oxygen, either through a nasal canula or mask, depending on the setup. Most sessions last 60 to 90 minutes, during which you can relax, meditate, listen to calming music, talk on your phone, or use your computer. You will be continuously monitored by our clinical team.
Decompression
At the end of the session, the chamber slowly returns to normal atmospheric pressure over about 5-10 minutes. You may feel a similar ear sensation as during pressurization.
After the Session
Most patients feel calm and energized afterward. Some may experience mild fatigue or light-headedness, which typically resolves within a few hours. There’s no downtime, and you can resume daily activities immediately.
Your care team will track your progress over time, especially if HBOT is part of a larger treatment plan such as surgery recovery, sports medicine, regenerative therapy, or simply part of a longevity regimen.

Frequently Asked Questions
Take the first step toward feeling your best.
What is a hyperbaric chamber?
A hyperbaric chamber is a pressurized environment where patients breathe 100% pure oxygen, allowing oxygen to reach areas of the body that are inflamed, damaged, or low in blood supply. This promotes healing at the cellular level.
Is Hyperbaric Chamber Therapy Safe?
Yes. HBOT at 2.0 ATA is non-invasive, drug-free, and well tolerated by most individuals.
Why choose thriveMD’s Multiplace 2.0 ATA Hyperbaric Chamber?
When it comes to results-driven regenerative medicine, not all hyperbaric chambers are created equally. At thriveMD, we’ve invested in the Oxygen Health Systems 40” Diameter 2.0 ATA Multiplace Hard Shell Hyperbaric Chamber—a premium clinical-grade system designed for the highest standard of comfort, safety, and therapeutic benefit.
This state-of-the-art chamber delivers hospital-grade oxygen levels at 2.0 ATA, the pressure supported by clinical research for tissue regeneration, inflammation reduction, and cellular repair. Its spacious interior offers an exceptionally comfortable and calming environment, making it ideal for patients undergoing multiple sessions or for those who prefer a more relaxed experience. The therapy is seamlessly integrated with our broader suite of regenerative and longevity treatments, allowing us to support your healing and wellness journey from multiple angles—all under one roof.
What are the benefits of the Oxygen Health Systems 40” Diameter 2.0 ATA Multiplace Hard Shell Hyperbaric Chamber?
This chamber’s spacious and secure design ensures an exceptional experience for patients who need reliable, repeatable results, whether you’re recovering from surgery, managing chronic inflammation, or pursuing advanced age management strategies. The machine also allows patients to safely bring a phone, tablet, or laptop into the chamber and use the time to relax, read, or work during their session, which no other machine allows.
More benefits include:
- 2.0 ATA pressure capability for maximum therapeutic benefit
- Multiplace design allows up to two patients to be treated simultaneously
- 40” diameter interior provides ample space and comfort for extended sessions
- Medical-grade acrylic and stainless steel for maximum durability and safety
- Seated and reclined positioning options to accommodate various health needs
- Equipped with intercom communication, patient monitoring, and advanced safety valves
- Manufactured in compliance with strict U.S. medical device standards
Why Does 2.0 ATA Matter?
Many soft-sided chambers on the market only reach 1.3 ATA and use increased oxygen, but at too low a pressure to make a significant difference. thriveMD’s hard-sided hyperbaric chamber reaches 2.0 ATA, and does so using 23% O2 to achieve these pressures, eliminating fire risk.
The pressure level required to deliver medically validated results in all peer-reviewed journal articles is 2.0 ATA, which is only achievable in hard-sided chambers. By doing so with a maintained low-oxygen environment and high-volume oxygen masks (or nasal cannulas), the maximum benefits can be achieved with optimal safety.
How does 2.0 ATA help with longevity and aging?
A groundbreaking study published in Aging (2020) demonstrated that HBOT at 2.0 ATA:
- Increased telomere length by up to 20%
- Reduced senescent cells by over 30%
What’s the difference between Soft Chamber vs. Hard Chamber?
Medical-Grade Hard-Sided Hyperbaric Chamber (Used at thriveMD)
- Reaches up to 2.0 ATA safely
- Delivers 100% medical-grade oxygen
- Plasma oxygen concentration is increased by as much as 15x
- Backed by peer-reviewed clinical studies
- Supervised by trained medical professionals
- Capable of producing therapeutic results in:
- Longevity and organ protection
- Neuroplasticity and cognitive support (improved focus and problem solving)
- Improved wound and post-op healing
- Faster recovery from sports injury and muscle pain
Soft-Sided Hyperbaric Chambers (Common in Spas or at-Home Use)
- Max out around 1.3 ATA pressure
- Uses oxygen but at low pressure that only improves plasma oxygen concentration by 1x-2x
- Not clinically validated for expedited post-operative recovery or soft-tissue repair
Bottom line: If you’re pursuing measurable outcomes in longevity medicine, recovery, or brain health, only a hard-sided hyperbaric chamber at 2.0 ATA will deliver.
Who can benefit from HBOT?
HBOT can benefit a wide range of individuals, from those recovering from surgery to high-performing athletes, and patients seeking advanced support for aging or inflammation. At thriveMD, our 2.0 ATA hyperbaric chamber is designed to deliver therapeutic outcomes backed by clinical science.
Who should not receive HBOT?
While HBOT is safe for most people, it may not be recommended for individuals with certain lung conditions, ear infections, or untreated pneumothorax. A full medical evaluation at thriveMD ensures your safety before beginning treatment.
What are the benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?
Key Physiological Effects Include:
- Increased oxygen delivery to tissues that are injured, inflamed, or oxygen-deprived
- Stimulation of stem cells and regenerative cellular activity
- Reduction of inflammation and oxidative stress
- Angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels)
- Immune modulation to help fight infection and promote repair
- Support for mitochondrial function, which boosts cellular energy production
These mechanisms are why HBOT is used not just for wound healing, but also for enhancing post-surgical recovery, neurological support, athletic recovery, and age management strategies.
How soon will I see results?
Some patients feel increased energy or reduced pain after just one session. However, the most profound cellular and healing benefits are cumulative and build over multiple sessions.
How many hyperbaric therapy sessions will I need?
The number of sessions depends on your condition and goals. Some patients notice benefits after just a few sessions, while others may undergo 20–40 sessions for cumulative effects like improved tissue regeneration, telomere extension, organ repair, and general longevity benefits.
Will I be alone in the hyperbaric chamber?
thriveMD uses a multiplace hyperbaric chamber, which is large enough to comfortably accommodate you and, if needed, medical staff or a family member or friend. This ensures continuous supervision and comfort throughout your session.
Are there side effects to Hyperbaric Chamber Therapy?
Potential short-term side effects include mild ear pressure or transient fatigue, similar to what one might experience during a flight.
